RICHARD I. BONG VETERANS HISTORICAL CENTER

The Mission of the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center is to honor the memory of Major Bong and all the veterans of WWII and later conflicts whose sacrifices maintain our Freedoms. The Center is an educational resource that collects and preserves the tangible legacy of these veterans and their home front supporters. In addition the Center perpetuates their ideals, principles, and leadership skills for today as well as future generations.

Events, Programs & Exhibits for 2009

EXHIBITS

"The Navigator’s Art: Don Herold's WWII Cartoon Envelopes" presents unique envelope artwork sent home to Eagle River by Navigator-in-training Don Herold. Following the war Herold worked as a freelance commercial artist. His most notable account was drawing artwork for the Green Giant frozen foods company.

"Trench Art" This exhibit presents several examples of WWII Trench Art crafted by servicemen, POWs and civilians. Lower level opposite the elevator.

"Delivering the Goods"-The US Merchant Marine in WWII Exhibit-NOW OPEN on the mezzanine level. Learn about the duties and dangers of delivering vital war-time supplies via the sea.
